Posted On: June 12, 2023
Studies estimate that about 6 to 7% of people in India suffer from asthma and coronary obstructive pulmonary diseases. For breathing problems among these people, doctors often prescribe devices commonly called pumps, inhalers, and rotacaps. Dr Saurabh Vanzara, Pulmonologist at Krishna Shalby Hospitals explains how to use a rotacaps rotahaler device. Below are the steps to correctly use Rotacaps by Rotahaler: Step 1. Uncap the Rotahaler/ Lupihaler (device). Step 2. Load the device with the prescribed Rotacap/ Transcap in the chamber. Step 3 A. For Rotahaler: Rotate the upper part in such a way that it separates the two parts of Rotacap. Step 3 B. For Lupihaler: Pierce the Transcap inside the chamber by pressing both the piercing pins. The device is now loaded. Step 4. Exhale completely through the mouth. Step 5. Place the device in your mouth. Hold it with teeth and seal it with lips. Step 6. Take a deep inspiration through your MOUTH. This will make a rattling sound which confirms that the drug is being released. Step 7. Hold your breath as long as you can. Step 8. Exhale through your NOSE. Step 9. Repeat step numbers 6 to 8 total three times. Till that time DO NOT remove the device from your mouth even momentarily. Step 10. Rinse your mouth and gargle with half a glass of plain water.
