Sleep Apnea

A pause in breathing during sleep is often referred as sleep apnea or sleep apnoea. Each such pause lasts for around 10 to 20 seconds and these pauses occur frequently for about 20 to 30 times in an hour. Majority of people are unaware that they have sleep apnea as it occurs while they are sleeping.

The most common category of sleep apnea is Obstructive Sleep Apnea. During sleep, the muscle of the body relaxes and the breathing is obstructed because of the collapse of soft tissue walls. Further, the normal breath is resumed by a snort or choking sound.
