What Are the Advantages of Dental Implants Over Conventional Dentures?

Are missing teeth making you look funny and do you feel weird before smiling?

Yes, missing or diseased teeth can impact the way you talk, chew food, or smile. It also impairs confidence for some. But thanks to modern healthcare solutions, we can aesthetically and functionally improve our daily functions even after losing teeth.

Two of the most commonly resorted options are teeth dentures and dental implants. Both the methods have their pros and cons.

Conventional dentures are fully removable. After the remaining teeth are removed and the tissues have healed, the dentures are placed in the mouth. But they are not permanent. Dentures are loosely placed in the mouth before chewing food or talking. They have to be soaked overnight and regularly cleaned after eating.

A dental implant is like a screw or a post made of titanium, a biocompatible material which fuses with the jawbone. It is implanted beneath the gum line and a crown or artificial teeth is mounted on it after the tissues have healed.

Common opinions have suggested Dental Implants be more convenient than conventional dentures. Let’s look at the advantages:

  • Implants don’t need to be soaked in water or cleaned after use
  • A dental implant doesn’t dislodge or shift while talking or eating food
  • They feel and look natural
  • Conventional dentures cause discomfort due to sore spots, poor ridges, or gagging Ordinary bridges/dentures are attached on either side of the space left by the missing tooth. While implants don’t need adjacent teeth to be prepared for the new replacement teeth Dentures do not prevent further deterioration. Since implants are of titanium, they prevent cavities hence protecting against deterioration
  • Incorporates into daily oral health routine
  • Dentures only offer a temporary solution
