Dr. Kalpesh Shah was admitted to Shalby Hospital for his Total Knee Replacement recently. A family physician by profession, he has been in practice in the Shahibaug and Asarva areas of Ahmedabad for the past 35 years.

Dr Kalpesh’s relationship with Dr Vikram Shah goes a long way. Dr Vikram had operated on Kalpeshbhai’s mother Chandrakantaben in Vijay Shalby Hospital in 2002. Kalpeshbhai’s father Dr Shankarbhai, was also a family physician and was in close touch with Dr Vikrambhai and that is how he chose Dr Vikram for his wife’s surgery.
Dr Kalpesh Shah quite enjoyed being a patient after 35 years of being a doctor. His wife Chetnaben was with him and both were of the opinion that their brief stay experience in Shalby was more akin to a resort rather than a hospice. Dr Kalpeshbhai said that although he was a doctor and took good care of himself, he had unfortunately inherited joint pain from his mother, Chandrakantaben, who also had the same problem.
Kalpeshbhai has suffered knee pain in both legs for many years. He was operated on one knee at another hospital in Ahmedabad a few years ago. Sadly, that surgery did not go well. He suffered pain and prostate trouble during his first surgery as the urinary catheter was put for a longer time in his bladder and he developed an infection. He also suffered operative pain for a month after that surgery. So for his second knee, he firmly decided to come to Shalby and that resulted in a happy experience.
Said Dr. Kalpeshbhai
Dr Vikrambhai and the team gave us an in-depth forecast about how they were going to operate. The surgery was uneventful as predicted.
What was surprising was that there was no urinary catheter after surgery, the incision was very small, and I could walk without support only after four days.
Also, as the surgeons in Shalby wear space suits, the risk of infection is much less. Above all, all the staff of Shalby was very helpful.
So all in all, we felt great. The service was very hospitable, the food was good and the ambiance was more like a resort than a hospital!
