After the age of 40 and 50, pain and discomfort in joints are considered a common problem. But during this period, a situation arises when the bones become so weak that even slight stress due to falling, bending or coughing can break the bones. This condition is called osteoporosis. To create awareness about this, World Osteoporosis Day is celebrated every year on 20 October.
Dr. Anish Garg, Joint Replacement Surgeon in Shalby Hospital, Indore, gave some tips to prevent osteoporosis. He said, “Be sure to include calcium-rich foods in your diet. Vitamin D is needed to absorb calcium. This deficiency can be overcome by taking supplementary medicines. Along with calcium and magnesium, fiber and folate are also found in beans. Consumption of lemon and orange is also important for bones.”
