“Knee Arthritis is becoming an epidemic in India. More than 15 crore Indians suffer from knee problems, out of which over 4 crore require Total Knee Replacement (TKR). In the next one decade, knee arthritis is expected to emerge as the fourth most common cause of physical disability in the country. The incidence of Knee arthritis among Indians is 15 times higher than western nations. We envisage a bright future for orthopaedics in India with huge outpouring of high-quality contributions. Our large population spurs us to learn more about the management of everything; be it osteoarticular manifestations, mangled trauma with late presentations, complex sequelae of untreated congenital or metabolic bone and joint issues. India has emerged as the most preferred destination for global patients opting for Arthroplasty Surgery with best services of quality, at par with international benchmark and that too at low cost affordable to everyone”, said Dr Vikram Shah as a prelude to the conference.
Live surgeries, Symposia, Case-based panel discussions, Free Papers, Interactive Workshops and a Trade Exhibition actively participated by OEMs and Suppliers formed part of this event.
Various contemporary topics in Orthopedics and Joint replacement like; New classification of Varus Knee, How to achieve high flexion in Asian Knees, Arthroplasty in Asia, Cemented and Uncemented Hip, Bearing surfaces in Primary Hip Replacement, Second Stage Revision Surgeries of Knee and Hip, Panel discussion on select Clinical Cases and a host of other related topics were discussed and deliberated in the conference for updating the knowledge of the seasoned and budding orthopedic doctors.
“Hip replacement surgery in India has come a long way. It is preferred by patients in India and abroad alike. Hip replacement cost in India is just a fraction of what it costs in other Western countries, including the US and UK. This is the major reason why India has emerged as a hub for orthopaedic surgeries for the medical tourists. On an average, a medical tourist spends 50 to 70 percent less amount when they decide to travel to India for hip or knee replacement or for that matter any other orthopaedic surgery”, said Dr J.A. Pachore, the veteran Hip Replacement Surgeon, on the sidelines of the conference.
The venue of the conference was Courtyard Marriott, Ramdev Nagar, Ahmedabad.
