How to Do CPR Step by Step Guide

Imagine you are at a coffee shop with your friend and having a casual conversation. In midst of the conversation, your friend suddenly starts to feel dizzy, experience chest pain and falls off the chair. In this case of extreme shock, what will you do first? Of course, you will start shouting for help, try to awaken your friend or ask someone to call for emergency services, but in the process, you have almost lost the first few crucial seconds.

Remember, when sudden cardiac arrest strikes, every second counts. In case, you knew to perform CPR, you would have been able to increase your friend’s chances of survival. As soon as the person succumbs to sudden cardiac arrest, the oxygenated blood stops flowing to the brain and other vital organs and within 4 to 6 minutes, the brain death occurs after the heart stops breathing.

But if you know CPR, this condition can be reversed and you can save a person’s life. CPR is an emergency hands-on emergency intervention performed to revive the oxygen-rich blood flow to the brain and other organs through chest compressions and rescue breathing. CPR can be administered when a person become unconscious and in situations like drowning, drug overdose and exposure to smoke.

With the rising incidences of cardiac arrests, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is a bliss that can restart the heart. It is a life-saving technique that can double or triple one’s chances of survival. According to the research published India Journal of Anaesthesia, about 70 per cent of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur at home and 90 percent of those who suffer out-of-hospital cardiac arrest die.

These out-of-hospital deaths can be prevented if each one us are trained to efficiently perform CPR. CPR training should be given mandatorily to schools and colleges to equip individuals with the much required knowledge of saving lives before the medical help arrives.
