Mr. Narottam Das Patel Get Back On His Feet at Krishna Shalby After 7 years of Chronic Osteomyelitis (Infection of Bones)
Posted On: February 26, 2018
Mr. Narottam Das Patel is very happy now after combating pain and discomfort for 7 years.
It all started after he underwent a surgery in a private hospital, owing to an injury on his right leg. Everything was fine for the initial few months but then the wound started oozing pus. For correcting the problem, he got operated multiple times but the problem continued and progressed to an advanced stage.
Disturbed with the consistent pain and inability to walk properly, Mr. Patel then visited Krishna Shalby, Ghuma, Ahmedabad. He met Dr. Dhaval Patel, Orthopedic Trauma Consultant. After examining his condition, Dr. Dhaval Patel carried detailed investigation and the problem was diagnosed to be Chronic Osteomyelitis. It is an infection that occurs to the bones. Though a rare condition, Chronic Osteomyelitis is very severe that can infect the bones in different ways.
To plan the most effective treatment module in the case of Mr. Narottam Das Patel, 'the pus' sample was sent to lab for further examination. Based on the lab test results, a proper treatment plan was designed which included opening of the local part, designing and following debridement and curettage. Once debridement of the Pus was performed, Saucerisation was done. It was then followed by application of Bone Stimulan (Bone Cement Granules) with the right mixture of antibiotics.
Mr. Narottam Das Patel was followed up by the medical team for almost 2 months and now he is totally free from the infection. He is now able to walk normally without any pain. While expressing his satisfaction and gratitude towards the doctors and staff for their expert and compassionate care; Mr. Patel was at loss of words as he was completely overwhelmed.
An Overview of Chronic Osteomyelitis
As defined, Chronic Osteomyelitis is a severe infection of the bones. The infection can either start in any part of the body and spread into the bone through blood, or the bone can be exposed to infection by an open fracture or surgery.
The treatment modules for Chronic Osteomyelitis are focused at stopping the infection and defending the function. The treatment options mostly include antibiotics, surgery and in certain cases both antibiotics and surgery may be advised.
Osteomyelitis must be treated at the earliest. In the case of acute osteomyelitis, timely treatment helps in preventing the condition from turning into a chronic problem, which would need ongoing treatment.
