EYE: Our Window To The World !

Organ of Vision, this is what our eyes are to us!! Eyes are the medium through which we are able to see the world as it is. An eye is one of the organs that stays functional throughout the day but does it receive an optimum care? Let us take a look as to when to take care of our eyes.

Firstly, we need to understand that the “care needs” for eyes of each age group are distinct. Here are a few conditions described that indicate the need for an eye check-up.

  • Newborn – A newborn is highly prone to acquire “lazy eyes” or decreased vision, as a parent you need to be vigilant about this.
  • Practice – A qualified Ophthalmologist will be able to correct this condition, although the eyes should be cleaned with warm water daily.
  • When to consult an eye doctor?
    1. Redness and discharge
    2. Watering
    3. Abnormalities= small eyelid, drooping, white reflex, or squinting
  • At the age of 1 to 10 years, a child is at a risk of developing vision problems that may remain un-diagnosed for years
  • Vision should be tested periodically, especially when parents have glasses
  • When to consult an eye doctor?
    1. When he/she has complaints like eye ache, double vision.
    2. Once a child has glasses, he/she should be re-examined every 6 months, as numbers can increase with height.
    3. In case of squint eye

As uses of mobile and computers are increasing, the appropriate use should be inquired with an eye doctor.

  • Adults – By the age of 60 years, you are likely to develop eye impairment conditions such as; looming around the corner, cataract, retinal problems or glaucoma etc. and may last lifelong, if not treated.
  • Practice – If you are suffering from any of the above-mentioned diseases, the visit to an Ophthalmologist once a year is must, as the disease affects blood vessels and may lead to irreversible vision impairment or loss.
  • When to consult an eye doctor?
    1. Redness
    2. Headache
    3. Irritation and burning
    4. Dimness of vision

So whenever you have an eye problem, please do not ignore it, as without Eyes,

Our World is BLACK!!!
